the vast majority of that life-cycle cost increase was because of assumptions that were too aggressive and lack of reality in the funding profile.

All right. Of the material remaining, how do you go about accounting for all of that, of what you're not going to clean up?

the industry's recent accident record is simply unacceptable.

I think that we can take from this hearing.

We don't want the cure, though, to be worse than the problem that we are experiencing.

I think there are issues that reach a certain level that we can't ignore them and we must address them.

I will continue to put my full support behind efforts to provide the necessary funds and services to our local veterans.

We have made significant progress in meeting veterans medical needs, but we have a much larger challenge to assist our veterans who are challenged with addiction, mental health problems and homelessness.

While we have made progress with the hospital, we need a strong Federal commitment to finish the much needed veterans medical facility.

The opening of the full-service Medical Center for veterans in Orlando is a huge and important step in fully meeting the promises that the Federal Government made to our men and women in uniform.

It is a win for the veterans who are in the area, and it certainly is a win for the VA.

With the thousands of soldiers who are returning from the frontlines who survive wounds that previously, in previous wars, would have killed them, it is Congress' obligation to care for these injured men and women.

That is exactly the kind of information that policymakers like the Members of the Committee need to know.

We have fought hard in Congress to ensure the Federal Government meets its obligation to those who serve their country.

The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of the early wars are treated and appreciated by their country.

A public-private partnership truly is a great idea. It takes a lot of work.
