I am struggling to try to figure out why this Administration proposes essentially to slash $1.5 trillion in Medicaid

it is clear that this budget jeopardizes the health care security of millions of Americans and their families.

But it does, and I am sorry to interrupt, and I appreciate that, but there is a significant cut in dollars that accompanies it.

The proposals and actions carried out by DHS to date have proven inadequate, harmful, and deadly.

I think it is important that we not conflate these two issues. Family separation is a completely separate issue from human trafficking.

Air travel is going to be increasing 30 to 40 percent in the not-too-distant future.

So if I hear it correctly, you are saying it is not just the bricks and mortars we are talking about here, we are talking about the security component.

Despite knowing beforehand that this policy would immediately lead to family separations, DHS... was completely unprepared.

There has to be a better way.

Last summer, the Department of Homeland Security, under the leadership of Secretary Nielsen, implemented a zero tolerance policy which resulted in the separation of thousands of families.

We have laws and procedures in place to protect migrant children and families seeking asylum.

This means that the reunification of family members was either an afterthought of this administration, or simply not prioritized at all.
